Background Information

In June 1978 a group of wool producers interested in the production of superior wool were encouraged to form the Sharlea Society of Australia.  The name Sharlea comes from the property where this method of wool production first originated.

The Sharlea Ultra Fine Society of Australia is the only association of its kind operating in Australia.  Its sole activity is that of promoting the interests of Sharlea ultra fine fibre and is managed solely by the members for the benefit of the members.

The association was formed by Australian farmers who are experienced in shed design, management of animal health, sheep nutrition and wool production of the highest quality.

These farmers are extremely dedicated and take pride in producing the most elite natural fibre in the world.

The Sharlea Ultra Fine Society of Australia is a world leader in the production of ultra fine fibre, specialising in the quality assurance, promotion and marketing.

Their aim is to maintain the market for Sharlea Ultra Fine Wool through promotion and marketing and gain stronger communication links with mills to source information in the development of new wool-blend products enabling information to be understood and acted upon.

The organisation has access to services such as technical support, fibre testing, knowledge, business management, etc.

The Sharlea Society of Australia recognises the importance of maintaining, enhancing and developing strong communication with the wool producer (grower) right through to the consumer. 

By demonstrating the benefits of new initiatives along with the value and attributes of Sharlea Wool to worsted woollen mills, retailers and consumers.  Sharlea maintains its fleece at the pinnacle of the wool industry.

Councillors of the Sharlea Society of Australia provide information to potential growers such as contact information, educational material about the organisation, and the production of ultra fine fibres.
